"We want to help care-experienced people to get into the right rooms with the right people. Because that's what anyone else would get from private school or Oxbridge."

“Matrix Chambers is delighted to join Lawyers Who Care (LWC), to actively support their mission of fostering care-experienced talent into legal careers. The whole ethos of LWC is very close to Matrix’s heart, with first-hand experience of adoption and fostering within Matrix’s membership and staff team. Matrix also has a longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion, which includes initiatives such as our work experience programme for young people aged 14–18 from underrepresented backgrounds - including care-experienced young people.

By partnering with LWC, Matrix is proud to extend its dedication to breaking down barriers in the legal profession, by offering long-term mentoring through LWC to care-experienced aspiring lawyers. This collaboration underscores our core values of equality, and the legal profession's broader responsibility to the community, by providing opportunities and support to individuals who have historically been underserved. We are incredibly proud to support LWC, and are excited to be a part of their important work.”

I wanted to volunteer for an organisation that was set up specifically to break down barriers for care-experienced aspiring lawyers. Such an organisation did not exist.

That is until the creation of Lawyers Who Care!

Unique in its mission and unique as a mentoring organisation - in my experience - in its leadership culture and attention to detail. I couldn't be more excited that Joanna Hughes Solicitor Apprenticeships is an official Mentor Organisation with LWC.

“Blackstone Chambers is proud to be a Founding Member of Lawyers Who Care, and to have Fraser Campbell KC as a member of its Advisory Board. We have long been committed to promoting access to the legal profession and to the bar in particular.

We seek to do this in our own recruitment procedures, as well as through broader mentoring work by individual barristers.

We look forward to working with the team at Lawyers Who Care to help unlock the potential of care-experienced individuals who want to bring their skills and experience to the legal profession.

Mishcon de Reya is a proud partner of Lawyers who Care. This brilliant charity matches solicitors and barristers with smart and driven care experienced young people who are pursuing a career in law. The depth of training, ongoing support and guidance offered by the charity means that our volunteers are well equipped to mentor their care experienced mentees as they start out in their careers in law.

The impact of this charity's mission and work will undoubtedly grow year on year as it continues to provide its young people with access to a profession which is rightly now focused on reaching a broader, more diverse range of talent.

We have found LWC to be a profoundly worthwhile organisation. It is run by people who have a fundamental knowledge of care experience, its myriad impacts and they have a clear strategy to redress the imbalances they have both experienced themselves and see continuing to affect others.

Above all they are about “doing” rather than simply campaigning which is why we are very proud to support them in their mission by providing direct mentoring in the last two cohorts.
