#CareLeaversCan
Am I care-experienced?
We define ‘care- experienced’ as someone who has been in foster care (including kinship care) or a residential care placement provided by a local authority in the United Kingdom during their childhood. This definition also extends to include those who have been adopted and unaccompanied asylum seekers who were looked after by a local authority.
Eligibility would not extend to anyone who was looked after whilst an age assessment was undertaken, where the outcome of that assessment deemed them to be an adult.

If you are unsure about whether you are care-experienced, please email info@lawyerswhocare.org who will be able to help you.
Am I eligible?
You are eligible if:

-
You are care-experienced;
-
You are aged 18+ (but no care leaver cut-off age);
-
You are enrolled on a BA or LLB at university (or an equivalent course) or are able to demonstrate suitability for an apprenticeship in law or other pathway to law; and

What We Offer

1
Long-Term Mentoring
We will aim to match you with a mentor who’s suitable for you and shares similar interests or is practising in the area of law you wish to practise in. Mentors will be trained in care experience and trauma-informed practices. Mentors will have a minimum commitment of 2 years, meeting for 1 hour a month.
2
Facilitating Work Experience
We are currently in the process of building a legal network to offer PAID work experience opportunities for care-experienced aspiring lawyers.
We are committed at LWC to making this the standard. Please note we do not offer paid work experience ourselves, we only encourage firms and chambers to offer it.
3
Community & Resources
At Lawyers Who Care, we’re building a supportive community that uplifts care-experienced talent. We connect mentees, foster mentorship, and work to provide essential resources to help you thrive in your legal career.

We also run monthly webinars and workshops that support our community. You can view those on our Youtube here.
