The impact of mentoring

Our Chief Operations Officer

(Gemma Creamer)'s story

After growing up in care, building relationships was not my strong point. Trust was not a skill I had mastered. When I met my mentor at the age of 16, I didn’t realise the profound impact it had until I now look back. Not only did my perspective on my career choice change but along with that, so did my self-belief in accessing a profession that I otherwise felt like an outsider to. Having a mentor has been one of the most powerful catalysts for both my personal and professional growth.

My mentor was the first person to ever tell me to own my story and to play the cards I was dealt with because they are what have built me into the incredible young woman I am today. He told me he believed in me and hearing that from someone already standing in the shoes you want to step into at a young age means more than most know. He offered guidance and support wherever it was needed not only on my goals but also on developing the skills necessary to achieve them. He told me he would support me on my journey into law.

He stuck to that promise.

7 years later he is still one of my biggest champions and he equipped me with the skills and confidence I needed to move alone in my career without his help.

Sometimes it just takes ONE person to make the biggest change in someone's life – I hope that it can be you next.
